OLYMPIAN SALLY KIPYEGO AT TRACKTOWN TUESDAY SEASON FINALE

Oregon Track Club Elite star and Olympic silver medalist Sally Kipyego will headline the season finale of TrackTown Tuesday on June 4 at the Downtown Athletic Club.

The show will also feature University of Oregon Athletic Director Rob Mullens.  Prefontaine Classic Meet Director Tom Jordan will be on hand to talk about this year’s competition. Finally, TrackTown USA CEO Michael Reilly will provide an update on ticketing for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field.

As a special bonus during the social hour, local sculptor Mike Leckie will showcase his new bronze statue of distance running legend Steve Prefontaine. The artist is generously sponsoring the social hour, so attendees can enjoy a free beer and food before the show, while supplies last.

Kipyego won the silver medal in the 10,000m at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and placed second at the 2016 New York City Marathon while representing her native Kenya. She boasts personal bests of 14:30.42 in the 5,000m, 30:26.37 in the 10,000m, and 2:28:01 in the marathon. Now a citizen of the United States, Kipyego plans on competing for a spot on the 2020 U.S. Olympic marathon team.

Mullens has been the UO Athletic Director since July 2010. Student-athlete experience, academic excellence, and broad-based competitive excellence comprise the foundation of Mullens’ core beliefs as he oversees nearly 500 student-athletes and a budget of $110 million.

Jordan, in his 36thseason as Pre Classic meet director, will preview this year’s event, to be held June 30 at Stanford University. Several phenomenal fields have already been announced, including perhaps the best women’s 3,000m lineup ever assembled on American soil.

Reilly has been the CEO of TrackTown USA since November 2012. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations of the organization, he has been instrumental in securing and delivering many of the premier events associated with the company, including the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships and the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field.

Leckie worked extensively with Linda Prefontaine, Steve’s sister, to create a limited-edition bronze statue of Pre. TrackTown Tuesday’s social hour will serve as the global unveiling of the piece.

UO Associate Athletic Director Vin Lananna will welcome the crowd and Sasha Spencer Atwood, Director of External Affairs at TrackTown USA, will emcee.

The popular town hall meetings are free and open to the public. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a social hour, followed by the one-hour show at 7 p.m. As always, appetizers from the DAC and pints of beer from Hop Valley Brewing Company will be available. Free parking is available in the adjacent Overpark.
