Today, TrackTown Tuesday: World Championships coming to TrackTown USA

World Championship inside scoop, University of Oregon seniors and OTC Elite newcomers

Two weeks ago, the sporting world woke up to the stunning news that the 2021 IAAF World Championships were coming to TrackTown USA. If you’ve wondered how this came to pass – without any prior publicity – don’t miss the next TrackTown Tuesday.

Doors open to the public at 6 p.m. for a social hour, followed by the free one-hour show at 7 p.m.

TrackTown USA President Vin Lananna will be the host of the festivities with former UO three-sport standout Jordan Kent serving as master of ceremonies.

There will be free coffee, tea and soft drinks, $5 appetizers and Hop Valley Brewing Co. will be pouring $3 pints of beer. Free parking is available in the adjacent Overpark. No validation is required after 5 p.m.

Future TrackTown Tuesday dates: June 2

It’s Senior Night at the Oregon Twilight Meet at Hayward Field on Friday, May 8, and you’ll have an opportunity to meet and ask questions of six UO senior student-athletes: Arthur Delaney, Trevor Ferguson and Daniel Winn from the men’s team and Lauren Crockett, Katie Porada and Jillian Weir from the women’s squad.

We’ll also introduce two of the newest members of Oregon Track Club Elite – CanadianSheila Reid and Great Britain’s Tom Farrell – both of whom will by vying for spots on their respective national teams for the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing this August. Reid, a 2012 Olympian and 2013 World Championships qualifier, won five NCAA titles at Villanova. She is the only woman to sweep 1,500m and 5,000m titles at the same NCAA Outdoor Championships. Farrell, a multiple all-American in cross country, indoor and outdoor track at Oklahoma State, was one of the top finishers for the Cowboys on two NCAA championship cross country teams. He also owns the school record in the 5,000 meters.

Pre Classic meet director, Tom Jordan will give us a preview to this year's meet. Many of the fields have been announced and tonight another will be revealed.
